At the US Open, Novak Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets to go to a record-tying 47th men’s Grand Slam semifinal.
The 36-year-old Serb won 6-1 6-4 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium to advance in his quest for a record-tying 24th Grand Slam victory.
Djokovic won despite briefly appearing to have trouble with New York’s heat and humidity.
In the semifinals, the three-time champion will take on local favorite Ben Shelton.
Shelton defeated fellow countrywoman Frances Tiafoe to advance to his first Grand Slam semifinal, unlike Djokovic who lost.
With his 13th consecutive victory at that point. Djokovic preserved his pristine record in the US Open quarterfinals, passing Roger Federer for the most Grand Slam men’s semifinal appearances.

The victory also brought him two victories closer to Margaret Court’s. Record of major singles victories, which she achieved in Australia.
Djokovic commented on setting yet another record: “The sport that has given me the most in my life is this one. I had a lot of hardship growing up because I was born and raised in a war-torn nation like Serbia.
“I had the good fortune to meet several extremely intelligent and enthusiastic individuals. Without their help and that of my parents, I would not be where I am today because of their love and selfless sacrifice.
“That’s the long explanation for what comes to mind when I hear how many records he’s broken. There are many things for which I am immensely thankful.”
Despite his heroic efforts, American Fritz, 25, was unable to triumph. As Djokovic defeated him at Flushing Meadows in brutal conditions.

Fritz had a break point in the first game and showed in game. Three that he wouldn’t be intimidate by Djokovic.

The third set was definitely not simple. But Djokovic answered in typical Djokovic manner and broke again, fed by annoyance.

At Fritz’s quick breakback for 4-4 and enraged by the actions of one spectator. To his credit, Fritz gave his opponent.
A good fight and managed to force a break point, but after two hours and 35 minutes on the court. Djokovic secured his second match point.
Only two months after the 20-year-old won an exciting five-set Wimbledon final against the Serb. The victory keeps Djokovic on track for a rematch with top seed Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s championship match.
For a spot in the final four, German Alexander Zverev will compete against Spaniard Alcaraz on Wednesday.
