Vivek Ramaswamy is one of the most well-known candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination.
But according to voting records in his home state, he hasn’t participated in a Republican primary recently enough to qualify as a party member.
In Franklin County, Ohio, where he has been registered to vote since November 2021, when he moved to Columbus, Ramaswamy, 38, is described as a “unaffiliated” voter.
The multimillionaire biotech entrepreneur identified himself as a “libertarian freestyler” in college.
GOP presidential candidate
According to Reuters, he claimed to have supported a Libertarian candidate in the 2004 presidential election but did not cast a ballot in the elections of 2008, 2012, or 2016.
He has donated to both Republican and Democratic campaigns. During the GOP presidential debate on Wednesday, a query about his scant voting record was quickly dismissed.
Ramaswamy claimed he later turned into a “hardcore” Trump supporter and cast his vote for him in the 2020 election.
In Ohio, a voter must ask for that party’s ballot during primaries in order to be identify as affiliated with that party.
Ramaswamy did not cast a ballot in the Ohio state primary last year, according to voting records that were initially publish by an account called Ohio Legislative Watch on X.
